Back in the summer of 2022, I vividly remember the buzz around Genshin Impact’s Version 2.7. After a short delay that had the community refreshing their timelines like there was no tomorrow, Hoyoverse finally dropped the mic and announced that “Hidden Dreams in the Depths” would go live on May 31 and run through July 13. Man, the wait felt like an eternity, but looking back from 2026, it was totally worth it. I’d been itching to dive back into The Chasm, and boy, did this update deliver the goods. The Serenitea Pot placement function finally came back online too – a huge relief for all the teapot mains out there who’d been twiddling their thumbs during maintenance.

Right out of the gate, the banner schedule was a banger. The first half featured the brand-new five-star Hydro bow user, Yelan, along with a highly anticipated Xiao rerun. If you were sitting on a pile of Primogems, this was a no-brainer. I went all in for Yelan, and holy moly, she did not disappoint. A secret agent working for Ningguang, this gal can zip through enemies and dish out AoE Hydro damage like it’s nobody’s business. Her elemental skill lets her sprint through foes, marking them for a follow-up burst that feels smoother than butter. The story quest that came with her was the cherry on top, peeling back layers of Liyue’s underbelly and her own mysterious past. If you’re a lore junkie, it was pure catnip.

The second half banner swung the spotlight back to Arataki Itto, with the brand-new four-star Electro swordswoman Kuki Shinobu tagging along as the featured support. As the deputy leader of the Arataki Gang, Kuki was the brains of the operation, often bailing Itto out of trouble. She quickly became one of my go-to healers because she sacrifices her own HP to top up the team while dealing decent Electro AoE damage. It’s a high-risk, high-reward playstyle that kept me on my toes. Her hangout event was equally entertaining – you get to see the gang’s chaotic dynamic up close, and Itto’s shenanigans had me cracking up more than once.

The Chasm took center stage in the Archon Quest continuation, weaving together Yelan, Xiao, Kuki, and Itto into a nail-biting storyline. The narrative explored the depths of this massive underground zone, and things got dark – literally and figuratively. I won’t spoil it, but if you haven’t done that quest yet, you’re missing out on some prime character moments and revelations about the Abyss. The Perilous Trial event also kicked off in The Chasm, hurling us into a series of challenge domains with wacky rules like character usage limits. It forced me to get creative with team comps, and honestly, that’s when I discovered some hidden synergy gems I’d been sleeping on.

Not everything was combat, though. A Muddy Bizarre Adventure had us poking around The Chasm’s goopier corners for rewards, which was a nice change of pace. And then there was the Drumalong Festival – a rhythm game event organized by none other than the Arataki Gang. With the new calibration system, I wasn’t fumbling beats like a total newbie anymore. I even whipped up my own drum track and shared it with my buddies. The creativity didn’t stop there: we got to build a toy robot from scratch by scavenging materials, assembling parts, and placing the finished bot in our Serenitea Pots. As someone who loves decking out my realm, this was like Christmas come early.

The update delay had everyone a bit salty at first, but Hoyoverse smoothed things over by handing out weekly compensation – extra Primogems, Mora, and goodies until the end of the month. The livestream also dished out those classic redemption codes: LANVJSFUD6CM, DTNUKTWCC6D9, and HSNUKTXCCPWV, each packing 100 Primogems plus materials. By the time I claimed those, my primo stash was looking pretty healthy for the banners ahead. Even now, thinking back, that compensation set a solid precedent for how live-service games should handle hiccups.

Fast forward to 2026, and I still fire up Genshin Impact from time to time. Version 2.7 remains one of my all-time favorite patches because it hit that sweet spot between world-building, character depth, and sheer fun. The Chasm’s mysteries, Yelan’s elegance, and the Arataki Gang’s chaos are etched in my memory. If you’re a newer player who missed it, do yourself a favor and check out the archived events or story quests when they rerun. It’s a chapter that proves Genshin Impact isn’t just a gacha treadmill – it’s a world you genuinely want to get lost in. So, here’s to Hidden Dreams in the Depths: a patch that truly lived up to its name, and then some.
